Analysis of Updated NDC
Timeframe

2021 to 2030

Relevant context

First world country with a growing population and has a role as a leading global resources provider

Process for developing NDC

No process is described. This updated NDC is largely a progress report on Australia’s new policies and measures outlined in its 2015 NDC, with updates on newly announced policies and measures to help reduce national emissions.

Description of Monitoring and/or Implementation Mechanism

The updated NDC cites several measures and policies that will enable the deployment of new and emerging low-emission technologies to support economic growth and emissions reductions. Some of the measures detailed are the establishment of Australia’s first regional hydrogen export hub, a new Future Fuels Package enabling businesses to integrate new vehicle technologies in their fleets, a Carbon Capture, Use and Storage Development Fund, and a new Technology Co-Investment Fund supporting businesses in agriculture, manufacturing, industrial and transport sectors to adopt technologies that reduce emissions.

Additionally, Australia will work off of an investment roadmap that serves as a guide for the deployment of estimated $18 billion of the Government’s investments over the period to 2030. It will leverage a further $50 billion of investment from the private sector, research institutions and the States and Territories.
