Guide to the GCT

The Gender Climate Tracker App has a clear and user-friendly structure with six key sections and three substantive sections (Gender Mandates, Women’s Participation Statistics and Country Profiles).

  1. Introduction - A foreword and introduction to gender and climate change.
  2. Gender Mandates in Climate Policy - A compilation of UNFCCC decisions that contain specific references to gender equality and identification of remaining gaps.
  3. Women’s Participation Statistics in Climate Diplomacy - Data on women’s participation on national delegations, as well as boards and bodies, at the major negotiating meetings of the UNFCCC from 2008-2019.
  4. Country Profiles - Summaries of submitted NDCs and analysis to evaluate the extent to which they address women’s human rights and the linkages between climate change and gender more broadly.
  5. Key Resources - Additional resources and websites.
  6. About the App - How to use the app, next steps and abbreviations.

Each substantive section includes an introduction guiding the user through the data, a methodology and quick analysis. The app is updated on a regular basis. For comments or questions, please contact

Next Steps

The Gender Climate Tracker Platform will continue to be expanded to become an information hub for decision-makers and policy experts. We hope this platform will be an open space for national level shadow reporting on implementation of the Paris Agreement from a gender equality and human rights perspective.
