There was a broad participatory process with comprehensive stakeholder engagement for this update. Specifically, preparing the NDC involved “immense engagements from the respective line ministries and stakeholders. Line ministries were engaged in the development process through a technical working group.” 

Description of Monitoring and/or Implementation Mechanism 

Ethiopia has a system for measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) and monitoring and evaluation (M and E), which were recently reviewed along with its current adaptation policy.

Summary of gender reference 

Gender considerations were taken into account this NDC so as to enhance the inclusiveness of its adaptation interventions. It specifically provides that a gender-responsive approach is to be taken in various adaptation programs. Moreover the country’s National Adaptation Plan, also notes that “detailed gender and institutional capacity gap analyses were conducted to inform NDC updating process.”

NDC was developed through an inclusive and participatory process.

Description of Monitoring and/or Implementation Mechanism 

NDC will be updated periodically, as appropriate. The Ministry of Environment and Forest will regularly organize consultative dialogues to review the implementation of the national and sectoral adaptation plans. This iterative process will ensure that national and sectoral adaptation plans are regularly updated and implemented.

Summary of gender reference 

Part of Ethiopia’s long term goal is to integrate action into its response to climate change that improve the status of women and the welfare of children (B).
