Gender was explicitly considered in Fiji’s NDC planning process, following the principle of gender-responsiveness, as articulated in Fiji’s National Climate Change Policy. This policy integrates gender issues by: 1) ensuring that gender is considered in all adaptation and mitigation approaches and methods; 2) supporting gender-balance in decision making processes; 3) promoting gender-equitable benefits; and 4) ensuring that gender is a vital consideration in programming finance and capacity-building activities. Additionally, gender targeted interventions are included in Fiji’s Climate Vulnerability Assessment, which forms part of its adaptation component. Finally, Fiji further commits to "take appropriate steps to protect its social infrastructure against climate change, prioritizing gender, the disabled, and the needs of children and the elderly in disaster management and climate action."
