Analysis of Updated NDC
Timeframe

2021 to 2030

Relevant context

Small island city state that is densely populated and has climate vulnerabilities and constraints in deploying alternative clean energy

Process for developing NDC

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change (IMCCC) is tasked with preparing Singapore’s NDC. This process took into account the country’s national circumstances, its opportunities and hurdles for mitigation. Studies and technology roadmaps were created through collaborations and consultations with industry stakeholders, academic experts, and technical consultants. The government also facilitated stakeholder consultations with the public to gather feedback on potential measures to reduce emissions.

Description of Monitoring and/or Implementation Mechanism

Guidance tools and strategies are listed. Comprehensive mitigation measures to achieve Singapore’s NDC are laid out in Singapore’s Climate Action Plan: Take Action Today, for a Sustainable Future (2016). Other climate strategies are reflected in the National Climate Change Strategy (2012), Sustainable Singapore Blueprint (2015), Charting Singapore’s Low-Carbon and Climate Resilient Future (2020) and various sectoral roadmaps and masterplans published by the respective government agencies.

Process for developing NDC

Singapore's Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change (IMCCC) drives the whole-of-government effort to develop Singapore’s climate change mitigation measures. These take into account Singapore’s national circumstances and challenges. Studies and technology roadmaps developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, academic experts and technical consultants, served as additional inputs on the potential of future technologies for long-term mitigation in Singapore. Public consultations were also carried out to obtain feedback on possible measures to reduce carbon emissions, and to promote green growth.
